Though I have been less than enthusiastic about various mechanized garden tools in the past, I must admit to a certain awakening fondness for the versatility and power of my neighbor’s tractor. Especially with a babe driving it.
That little John Deere did yeoman’s work in the garden. I tilled over 8,000ft2, and cannot imagine how long it would have taken me to fork up all that hard ground by hand.
On a small scale, my broadfork, spade and fork are indispensable. A tractor has always been overkill in the past, as I’ve never had much land, or the money or desire to buy a tractor, or a neighbor to borrow one from.
Now, however, with 30 acres around me and a free tractor, there’s no reason not to use one!
If I ever get a larger homestead, I will probably buy a tractor. The amount of work I could do in a short time was amazing.

Go tractor, go!

David,
It’s true
What they say, “nothing runs like a Deere”! I’m sure for security sake you don’t like to share your address which makes complete sense. That being said, I have a friend who married a gal from Greenville, Al. which is south of Montgomery and an hour north from the Fla. panhandle. (Red neck Riviera) as I like to call it. If you’re anywhere close, you’ve landed in the best part of cotton country. The people are quite friendly and always willing to help…if you’re a Baptist all the better ! Alas, as a Lutheran I only got tea…not sweet tea. Sweat Tea and Boiled Peanut..Alabama survival food to be sure. The first time I was offered this delicacy, I needed the waitress to repeat herself several times until I understood what she was saying and my could set my fear aside..just say boiled peanuts in your best AL. accent /drawl and
you’ll understand.
My reason for emailing was to ask about Miccorhizae Fungi. I’ve spent some time researching how it works, and of course now with Fall fast approaching and the thought of cold crops, it would make complete sense “MF” doesn’t work with brassicas.. or so I read on several articles. If this is the case what can I use for my brassicas that will help with water retention along with fertility uptake? Any light you can shed is most appreciated.
I’m happy you have your family back home stateside. I know you wanted to have your extended family closer, but in the final
analysis 500 miles apart is better than 1500 miles and one third world country apart.
Stay Well and Stay Safe !
May God continue to bless you and your family.
