Yesterday I posted a video taking a look at the progress of our main Southern apple orchard, plus the new one we just planted.
In the video, I said we planted ten different apple trees and gave ten additional varieties to Randall White.
I was wrong. I went back and checked the order from Century Farm and Orchards and we originally had sixteen trees. Of those, I gave six to Randall and kept ten.
Two of the ones we planted died, one due to a blight, the other due to a string trimmer accident. Seven of the remaining trees have labels and one does not.
And the one tree that does not have a label is the one that has the most fruit this year.

So which tree is it?
I wrote Randall and asked him what trees he had and he sent me back a list of six.
Then I screen-capped the order form from my old emails and started highlighting.
The ones highlighted in green are the ones I have labels for. The ones in yellow Randall has.

Of the unlabelled trees, two of which are deceased and one of which is thriving, we have Shell, Shockley and Jake’s Seedling.
This is what a Shockley apple looks like:

And this is a Jake’s Seedling apple:

This is a Shell apple:

The fruit are not ripe yet, so I can’t say, but I have a feeling the tree is a Shell apple. We’ll see how they look as they ripen.
I forgot we even got a Shell with the order!
Missing labels sure make the world more interesting.
