Saving money is the LEAST of the reasons to save your own seeds!
For the last few years, we have been saving seed from the garden and replanting it. Over time, these plants are adapting to our climate and our gardening methods. Today we’ll take a look at our landrace daikon radishes, our landrace corn, and our landrace pumpkin varieties. It’s truly amazing how the vigor of the plants increases. We’re breeding vegetable varieties right in the backyard, and seeing what works with the climate. Saving seeds makes gardening easier!

I agree. The winter blast of spring 2023 killed off a lot of our spring peas. We planted 3 different varieties. We planted them everywhere in our gsrdens. The hope was dried and frozen peas and improved soil thru nitrogen fixing. We put peas everywhere. Frostmageddon hit and 10 plants lived. Now June 7 and the 4 plants we have left are bumper croppin (is that a word?) No idea which varieties they are. Don’t really care. Samples are super tasty raw. We will have seed for this fall. So winner winner chicken dinner with a side of fresh peas. Just later than we expected.
My advise is if weather or disease or pests hit you crop. Do not tear it all out. Look for the survivors. Choose the healthiest of thise survivors. Then keep your daughter from eating it right in the garden. My kids must be part chipmunk.
