It’s sugar cane harvesting season.
Year one and the cane harvest is already quite good!
I estimate we’ll get about 70-80lbs of cane total this year. Not bad for a 10 x 10 bed, I reckon.
I don’t know why more people aren’t planting cane in their yards. It’s great for children, is an attractive perennial, requires hardly any work… and the molasses is fantastic.

Looks good! Do you happen to know what variety that is?
No, unfortunately. I have two types, both acquired from local farm stands. One is green, the other red. I'm 99% sure they're crystal cane varieties, since they have really tough fibers inside. I'd love to find some chewing cane… any suggestions?
