I’ve seen cinderblock rocket stove ideas before but never built one.
My brother Brian the Firefighter sent me an e-mail the other day. It read:
“Remember the jet cooker thing? This was $8 bucks from Lowes for parts.”
These pictures of a homemade cinderblock rocket stove were attached:
I wrote back and said, “Hey – film it!”
So he did, and sent me this video:
A little while later, he wrote this:
“So it cracked. One burn and its cracked haha. It’s still functional but not movable without it crumbling.”
And this attached photo:
“I saw one made with a 5 gallon bucket and some 6inch pvc [note – I posted that design here] and 80 lbs of cement. Also one made of square iron and welded. I’ll keep you posted.”
We’ll see what he come up with next. This jet cooker was definitely a good first attempt.

My husband has the stuff for the 5 gallon bucket one with the concrete. We’re hoping to get it made by this winter.
yeah, I would expect the high heat put out by a rocket stove would wreck those cinder blocks..but it was a good try..I wonder if you added some cut pieces of scrap metal on the inside to insulate the cinder block whether that would make a difference or not..rocket stove is on my list of to do projects…
