This blog has been one of the constants in my life.
Since starting it in 2012, we’ve lived in five different houses and have attended nine different churches.
We’ve also had five more children, and have another on the way.
(Fortunately, I’ve kept the same wife.)
I’ve seen almost all my favorite garden blogging peers disappear, and the space get filled with lots of crummy fake gardening blogs that mostly exist to sell junky Chinese products.
Yet we’re still here.
Earlier this year I dropped the ads we were running here because I got tired of seeing them. I don’t know that it was a good idea, since that made me a few hundred per month and we have a mortgage to pay, but I just didn’t like seeing shoes and vacation ads and stuff in between my gardening posts.
Maybe I’m too idealistic and I should run them again. It was nice to pay the phone bill!
Anyhow, thanks for putting up with me all these years. It’s been a great run so far, and I really enjoy writing here. There’s a stability to it we don’t always have elsewhere.
Also, this is the 2812th post here. This year I’ve managed one post for every weekday, like I did for a long time in the early years of this site.
What a run it’s been. Glad you’re here.

Congratulations on 11 years! I’m curious how you use your sweet potato leaves? Last year, I started putting them in smoothies. I imagine they’d be good sauteed too.
I’m glad you’re still here! You’ve been an inspiration for me! Found you in 2014 at the 326 market and still following. Keep up the great work!
Put the ads back on. A few hundred dollars a month are a few hundred dollars a month.
Thank you. The company didn’t like that I pulled them, so they’ve cancelled my account. I’m committed now!
I am so impressed by your reading list! You must be a speed reader! So many great books. I have known Fr. Hector Perez (he now calls himself cannon) most of my life. He is the Cannon of the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Pensacola, FL. It would be a short drive from where you are. I don’t know the other authors on your list personally. Except my son’s godmother dated Dr. Taylor Marshall eons ago. I have enjoyed your books and videos for years and praise God for how your family has grown. Your children are a blessing to all not just you and your wife.
I haven’t seen my favorite book on your reading list, but maybe I missed it. Please read Divine Mercy in my Soul the Diary of St. Faustina Kowalska. It is one of my favorite books ever!!! You will LOVE it.
Thank you, Rosa. Canon Perez baptized us into the Faith – he is a great man.
I will get that book as well – thanks for the recommendation. I do read quickly. I also do not watch television or movies, so I have more time to read.
Another on the way? WHOO CONGRATS! ^_^
Thank you!
Congrats on your 11 years blogging and congrats on another blessing on the way! We appreciate your knowledge, matter of fact honesty and your humor.
Thank you, Barbara.
Congrats on 11 years, David! I have only recently started reading the blog, but am thankful to have found it. All the best as you continue to grow your family, faith, and knowledge.
Thanks, Tom – I’m glad you found me.
So excited to hear of your new little life on the way–what a blessing!
Congratulations on 11 years of wonderful knowledge/wisdom shared and perseverance on your part! Almost like you are Garden-Solomon urging us all to heed the Proverbs (and Ecclesiastes) of gardening that you’ve generously written!
You have been a core part of my inspiration to give subtropical food-growing a try here in the SWFL sand and scorching sun–and grocery rows are goin’ in this autumn!
I now own 1/2 of your books, I believe.
Thank you also for living your faith in Christ out loud and in the open.
Godspeed,
David G.
Congratulations ! I started watching you a few years ago when I was researching compost how to’s. Got your compost book. You’ve got #11 on the way ?? How did I miss that. Congratulations on that too. Hoping mama feels good. Blessings on you all. I look forward to your videos. Just wish I could grow a bit more of what you can. Pretty basic up here in Canada. We get nearly 40c above and hover around 28c below in January. I have a 6 month growing season and a 6 month knitting season
Thank you for everything. You’re a wonderful inspiration and you have kept me going when I was ready to give up. Congratulationson on expecting a new baby! I hated the ads, so I’m happy they are gone. The forums and websites with the ads that continually pop up while trying to read while moving and flashing motion were the worst. I’ve stopped visiting those sites and was about to stop using a computer alltogether. It has gotten obnoxious on the internet.
