I’m not sold on “no dig” methods, though I understand the reasoning. This is a good overview of why many gardeners are moving away from tilling.

Last fall instead of pulling up the dead bell pepper plants I cut them off because of something I read. They were right! Just pulled the brown stalks up to plant broccoli and the dirt was soft and and loose, unlike the dirt further away, which was hard to dig into.
Will be cutting off instead of yanking up from now on.
Good job. There are a lot of roots in the ground which simply decay away and leave openings and humus for future plants. I’ve done that before by planting a bunch of beans, lentils and peas, then cutting them off and planting crops where they’d been. The soil looked beautiful.
