After using the Meadow Creature broadfork for multiple years and recommending it to thousands of viewers and readers, they’ve now jumped in as a brand-new sponsor of TheSurvivalGardener.com.
It’s a perfect fit, since I was already completely sold on their broadfork. Isn’t it great to have something you can recommend without reservation?
Their sales have been primarily based on the fact that they’ve created a basically unbreakable tool that’s also easy to use, not on fancy ads and certainly not on hype. The Meadow Creature broadfork works great, so people tell other people and they tell even more people. I’ve done that since the first time I tried one out, and I’m thrilled that they’ve now decided to invest in this site as part of getting the word out.
In the past, I’ve mentioned or demonstrated the Meadow Creature broad fork in my book Grow or Die: The Good Guide to Survival Gardening, in my video 13 Tips, Tricks and Lessons From Homesteading an Acre and in two videos on YouTube:
I’ll probably do a new broadfork video at some point, since I’ve continued to use and find uses for the Meadow Creature. My first video was just a “whoa – check this out” off the cuff shoot and the second one was just showing off how easy it is to till with this thing.
Also, you can read my original review of the Meadow Creature broadfork here. And you can read the post I wrote for it on Mother Earth News here.
If you’re in the market for a broadfork, please click on through the new ad on the right and when you buy one, please let them know David The Good sent you. I’ve been told that my previous endorsements have already quite a few of these great tools and that’s why they decided to jump in as a sponsor.
Heck, I even included a drawing of the Meadow Creature broadfork in my Garden Tools for TEOTWAWKI cartoon from three years ago:
Thanks to those of you that mentioned my name when you bought a broadfork. The readership of this site has grown to the point where I can finally really reach out to some of my favorite companies and say “hey, wanna collaborate?” You guy are great.
The Meadow Creature is a marvelous tool and it comes from a great company. There aren’t many solid American tools being made anymore and I’m quit happy to be supporting a company that’s bucked the odds and created a new classic made in the USA.

I bought a Meadow Creature Broadfork as a result of this blog. I bought it mainly because I wanted to start a survival garden and I wanted a mechanical tiller alternative. Small engines and I don’t get along.
I feel the same way about engines… I’ve had four tillers and fought with every one.
Awesome tool. I love mine. Makes it so easy to get rid of the grass. Just flip the grass and make a hugel mound with it.
I’ve been using the old grub hoe to clear sod and then throwing the sod to the chickens has been working well… but it’s slow going, the way the grub hoe chops the sod leaves the roots holding a ton of dirt i want to do and it takes forever to shake it all out… the broad fork definitely seems much better at keeping the soil in take while removing the plants. Can’t wait to give one a try!
It makes a huge difference. My wife and I use it for all our new bed prep now – the weed roots just shake right out of the soil.
David, is this a good tool to increase drainage in poor drainage areas? Looking to add a few fruit trees 11 or so and really want to make sure drainage is not an issue. In Jacksonville and it’s mostly sand… Go figure.
It definitely loosens up the soil and lets the rain soak in a lot faster; however, if you’ve got an area that stays flooded, I’d also make some mounds to plant on, then dig trenches in between to keep at least some of the tree roots above the stagnant water level.
I only had standing water twice in he five year on my property more than a couple hours, tropical storms.. That year I lost a nectarine and two apples(all new)… Thinking root rot. The idea of using railroad ties and keeping them slightly higher to give the trees some protection has crossed my mind. Another thing I though or was a dry well and pump o move the water in case of emergency only… As those few times here was a lot.
