This spring, I planted 120′ of Ube yams.
Ube yams are prized by the Filipino community.
They are very popular for desserts, particularly around the Christmas holiday.
In our area, ube yams are expensive. I bought my ube seed yams from an Oriental market for five dollars a pound.
Now when I harvest these yams, I should have a lot more planting material!
I can use that in the spring to perhaps plant as much as a quarter acre of ube yam.
That will officially make me an ube farmer.
The big problem is the cultivation of the land. Creating mounds for yams takes a lot of effort when done by hand.
I used our Bobcat to create the current mounds that I have, but it took longer than it should’ve if I had a tractor – and a bed maker would’ve helped a lot!
I am tempted to buy a tractor with a attachments on it; however, I should probably figure out how to add an attachment to the Bobcat instead.
There’s probably a way.
This morning. I came across an Ube farmer in the Philippines.
This is a beautiful field of yams!
If I can figure this out, maybe we’ll have something similar next year.
