It’s just too hot!
The heat and humidity together just make the body shut down. It’s too hard to work, so the weeds will win for now… and the compost piles, and the pathways, and the planting work, and the cover crops… they’re all just gonna have to wait.
These are the days that make you feel old and weak and tired. But it’s just the heat. You’ll be okay in a couple of months.
I hope to do a video today titled “I Don’t Want to Garden Anymore.”
Or we may just go to the splash pad again.

I’m right there with you, we’ve had highs in the upper 90’s to 100 since the second week of June and very little rain. I am trying to get motivated to get my late summer and fall gardening going, but I just want to sit in the AC and drink beer.
You could take a pot, some potting soil, and seeds and microgarden while you’re there.
Tell me about it! Here in middle Georgia, it’s miserable being outside even at only 80 degrees, with the humidity keeping the sweat dripping off of us instead of evaporating. Blech! Anything that gets done outside happens before 10:00, and even that is pushing it.
I feel your pain. Literally. Repaired fence yesterday a tree took down. Took an hour and done by 9:15. I was done for the day. Heat index was creeping up toward or above 100 already. You pretty much have a couple of hours after sun up and maybe a half hour at end of day to get essentials taken care of. Preparation for second planting is on hold for now. Hopefully next week. I have been saying that for a while. Occasionally a shower give you a shot at mowing and other jobs. The best word I can think of this year is BRUTAL. But the nice thing about being on the gulf is September through May are wonderful.
That’s right. Dawn is the best time to get stuff done. And yes – fall through early spring is great!
Watched the video. Thanks for the Get Out of Guilt Pass. Wonderful first garden this year. Looking forward to the Fall Garden. I hated to see all my tomato plants giving up the ghost. Went to the Foley “Farmer’s Market” today. Not a tomato for sell anywhere. Just that time of year down here. Looking into landscape fabric. Say someone do a video on growing sweet potatoes under the stuff. Made me start thinking.
Saw not Say. Too hot to type well.
I vote splash pad and picking vegetables after 7pm or before 9am
Yep in Tallahassee this is when it all gets ahead of you… if it rains in the afternoons it cools us off in the evenings, but if it gets dry it is very bad.
