Which preserves the organic matter better, shredding and putting directly in the garden for the winter or a compost pile? Or is it a toss up? I generally go for simpler like shred and throw in the garden, but I could do a compost pile if there’s a clear benefit.
Probably just dropping it on the ground leaves you more material.
Thanks. Our land is really, really low on organic material so it’s been a challenge building it up (it seems the case with all farmed land). Now that we have a tractor, cover crops are more in play next year but might as well still use the leaves too.
