While visiting Snyder Park earlier this week, I came across one of the most interesting caterpillars in Florida:
That is a saddleback caterpillar. I have covered these guys in a previous post and video. If you see one, watch out – they sting!
Though I have not been stung by a saddleback caterpillar yet, I have been stung by both of Florida’s other super-painful caterpillars; namely, the Io moth caterpillar and the puss caterpillar.
Why is it the prettiest creatures can hurt you the most?

I still vividly remember the first time I made the acquaintance of one of these creatures! It was like being surprised by a cattle prod. Just FYI: sometimes they hang out on the underside of the leaf.
Oh yes, I’ve been stung by one!!
