The yard long beans have been huge this year:
They’re almost living up to their name.
Yard long beans, also known as snake beans, are one of the “Totally Crazy Easy” crops I feature in my new book.
We’ve been eating them as green beans, in soups, in salads and right off the vines. This particular cultivar was given to me by my friend Curtiss. They’re a black-seeded variety. They took a while to get going, but once they got going they’ve been crazy productive.
Yard long beans don’t mind the heat. They don’t mind the rain or the lack thereof. They produce and produce better than any bean you’ve ever grown in Florida.
I mean… why wouldn’t you grow these things?
There’s still enough time to pop some into your fall garden – go ye out and plant!
