The next four days are toasty:
It’s been dry for a week now and it doesn’t look like it’s going to let up. The sand here drains fast and gets very dry in a short period of time. We have the sprinkler running right now and I hand-watered the Grocery Row Gardens this morning. The gardens would do better with some proper irrigation but I don’t we’ll have our well working any time soon.
On the up side, we have a good bit of produce coming in right now. A few tomatillos and raspberries, a few blackberries, plenty of broccoli and cabbages and onions, tons of potatoes, a good bit of collards and some tomatoes. Some hot peppers are almost ready and my son’s watermelon vines have small watermelons growing on them. This weekend I planted okra and there are also amaranth seedlings popping up in the gardens. Pole beans and cucumbers are producing, and we have fresh dill and mint too. The yams are starting to climb and the snake gourds are fruiting.
It’s about time to go film the garden again. Maybe this evening when it cools off. It’s hot now!

Looking good! Are your trellises based on Josh Sattin’s “A trellis to make you jealous” design? Would you recommend them?
Yes. And yes, I like them, but they are a bit pricey.
