Every time I visit the Mosswood Farm Store, I see something cool. When I went there to record my video on building an earth oven with cob construction, I also noticed a strange contraption lying on a bench. When I asked Joe if it was a firestarter, he concurred, then let me film this quick demonstration:
That’s a type of bow drill, apparently called a “pump drill” fire starter. It’s a lot more efficient than trying to twirl a stick between your palms and create a coal.
Though it may not be the simplest method of starting a fire, it sure beats stealing poor Piggy’s glasses.
