We were involved in a nasty car accident on Friday afternoon.
My wife and all the children were in the car but – God be praised – we were okay.
A woman in a little Hyundai came flying around a corner, fishtailing in the middle of the road. Nailed us almost head on.
I saw her for about a second before she smashed into us. It was impossible to get out of the way, but fortunately I wasn’t going all that fast.
Somehow, last second, the front of her car had turned away a bit so the driver’s side of my car caught her rear door instead of the front of the frame. She spun all the way around and ended up facing the other way.
I saw the flash of blue as her car came towards my face – heard Rachel yell – felt and heard an overwhelming impact – saw everything go white and thought my number was up.
A moment later I snapped back, realized the radiator had exploded and there was smoke, and quickly evacuated Rachel and the children out to the side of the road, then went to check on the other driver. She was okay as well, which is really a miracle considering her little car and how fast she was going. Another foot or so into my lane and I think she would have been crushed – and I probably wouldn’t be here.
Kids got a bit banged up and my neck is a mess, but I sure felt God’s protection.
I really would not be surprised at all if an angel gave that other car a push right before impact. It looked head on…. then it wasn’t. Our car is probably dead for good.
Looks like I’ll be taking the bus again for a while… but as I hugged the kids and sent them to bed that night, I really couldn’t care less about losing our vehicle. Insurance and the police can figure out what to do. We’re just thanking God right now.
He is good.

“I will extol You, my God, O King;
And I will bless Your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless You,
And I will praise Your name forever and ever.
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
And His greatness is unsearchable.
One generation shall praise Your works to another,
And shall declare Your mighty acts.
I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty,
And on Your wondrous works.
Men shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts,
And I will declare Your greatness.
They shall utter the memory of Your great goodness,
And shall sing of Your righteousness.
The Lord is gracious and full of compassion,
Slow to anger and great in mercy.
The Lord is good to all,
And His tender mercies are over all His works.
All Your works shall praise You, O Lord,
And Your saints shall bless You.
They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom,
And talk of Your power,
To make known to the sons of men His mighty acts,
And the glorious majesty of His kingdom.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
And Your dominion endures throughout all generations.
The Lord upholds all who fall,
And raises up all who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look expectantly to You,
And You give them their food in due season.
You open Your hand
And satisfy the desire of every living thing.
The Lord is righteous in all His ways,
Gracious in all His works.
The Lord is near to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him in truth.
He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him;
He also will hear their cry and save them.
The Lord preserves all who love Him,
But all the wicked He will destroy.
My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord,
And all flesh shall bless His holy name
Forever and ever.”

Thank God you and your family are ok. Tend to your bruises.
Keith
Thank you, Keith.
David, Love the Psalm, So happy to hear you and the family, and the other person are okay.
Dave, I am thankful that you all survived and are not seriously injured. God be praised!
Thank you Matt – yes indeed.
I just came to your site after reading the Heirloom Gardener article you wrote. I’m super encouraged, not only that God spared you, but that you have given Him the credit for it. Hope you all have a full recovery! I’ll be back!
Thank you, Jared. Stop by any time – glad you were encouraged. I am grateful to be alive and have my children with me today.
Oh, my goodness! That is terrifying to go through! Very thankful the Lord spared you all! Wow. Thankful that you all know God’s goodness. Continuing to pray for y’all. “For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”
Thank you very much, Steph.
I had been wondering if y’all ever got a vehicle to use. Shame you lost one again, but so very glad everyone is ok. My family has been in those kinds of accidents several times where we considered the possibility of divine intervention. But for whatever reason everyone walked away this time, I know you are so very thankful! God is good!
Thank you, Effie. Definitely.
So glad you guys are all ok.God was truly there David. The angels indeed.God bless you and be healed.
Thank you, Jessica.
Oh my goodness, so very glad you all are okay and that Someone was looking out for you!
Yes indeed. Thank you, Rachel.
Thank the Lord that no one was hurt seriously. His grace and protection are a daily gift!
Amen to that.
Ashley and I are glad everyone is ok. Thoughts and prayers being sent your way.
Thank you, Brandon. Miss you guys.
Praising God along with you my brother! So very happy you all are well. And so wonderfully excited for the voice you have to the world through this media to give God glory!!
Thank you, Carlos. I am an imperfect vessel, but I have to give praise where praise is due.
I am so glad you and your family are okay. Too bad about your car, though. I would really be upset if I lost my favorite Survival Gardner – I follow you religiously.
Thanks, Carrie – I’ll try to stay alive for you.
First of all I’m glad everyone is alive and well. Secondly I am grateful and appreciative that you’re not ashamed of sharing the good news. All of the pslams you post point to Christ. You’re not afraid of losing YouTube subscribers because of your faith. Me and my family hope to meet you guys someday.
Thank you, Dan. Even if it does cost me to share, well, there’s no real loss – we win in the end.
So glad your family is okay, David. Hoping for a speedy recovery for your neck and am grateful that you continue to share so much with everyone.
Thank you, Mark – my neck is mostly better!
I am so incredibly glad you & the family are all okay. That looks really scary.
It was brutal. Thank you, gal. Miss you.
Glad you guys are ok. I really enjoy keeping up with you through your videos and blog, and believe that you and Rachel are helping more people than you know, not just with your gardening information, but with your great attitudes about life and your faith in God.
Thank you, Rob. I hope so.
We are thankful for your safety and your scriptural lense to view the event. Praise the Lord for His mercy and protection. Hope your neck heals with no further issue.
Thank you, Aunt Karen. I am feeling better. Now we’re working through all the insurance mess. Much better than planning funerals, praise God!
Oh My! So glad it wasn’t any worse….! Sending prayers the aches an bruises heal quickly! God IS Merciful!!!
Thank you, Annie!
Let me join the chorus of well wishes and relief, you’re all okay!! But for the grace of God, go any of us. Was that cracked windscreen, because you hit it with your head? Take care of your neck and I’ll pray for healing.
I believe it was a piece of debris or the airbag itself that smashed the windshield – a close one. Thank you for the prayers. Glad you’re here.
Praise God for his protection! So glad to hear you and the family were protected from serious injury. Will be praying God resolves your transportation need soon.
Thank you very much, Erin.
David,
So good to hear everyone is OK, hopefully that includes your neck. My wife and son were involved in a bad crash some years back. The body heals but the mind takes a lot longer to get over such an event.
The angels were definitely looking over all of you that day.
Craig
I hope your wife and son were okay. My kids were really shook up the first day afterwards – some of them couldn’t sleep well. I went to bed with half of them scattered around our room. Thank you.
I’m thankful you all are ok. I think angels are busier helping us than we might suspect. I’ve had a few car “incidents” through the years that were similar to yours…looked like head on and then wasn’t, suddenly. Or thought I was headed into the ditch, then I…wasn’t. Suddenly.
God is so very, very good. For He has given His angels charge over you…
I think you’re right. Thank you, Rebecca.
So thankful you all are okay. Love, love, love that Psalm. Great is His Faithfulness!
Yes indeed! Thank you, Cathy.
So glad you and the Fam are ok, happy you are taking it in stride, life can change in the blink of an eye, literally!
Thank you, Jonathan.
I’ll have to admit that my eyes filled with tears when I read about the crash. I used to so crash reports, and I know what a narrow miss for your life, and the other driver’s that was!
Then the tears spilled over when I read your glory to God and the 145th Psalm.
I pray God blesses you with an even better car!
‘Tricia Agnew
Thanks a bunch, Tricia. It was very close.
Nahum 1:7
“The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him.”
Psalm 121:7-8 The LORD will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.
Thank God for His Generous Mercy! God Bless Dave and Family!
Excellent verses – thank you, Eleanor. Blessings to you as well.
Ditto!
Praying!
Thank you, Laura.
He is good…always. Even when lives are changed forever, His ways are always best. Someday, we’ll be able to ask His purposes and in the meantime we can use His word, as you did so well, to gratefully respond to His loving kindness. I praise Him for His graciousness to all involved right along with you!
Amen – thank you, Lisa.
Really glad the accident wasn’t fatal for you and anyone else in the accident. If there is indeed a God, he great. The world would have lost a great teacher otherwise. Thank you.
There is a God, and He most definitely is great. Thanks for the well-wishes, Darrin. I appreciate it.
So glad that you’re all okay. My daughter was in a crash a few weeks ago and I do understand the depth of the feelings of gratitude towards God when he protects your family. Her only injuries involved the air bag hitting her face and chest.
You might want to consider a visit to a chiropractor early next week for you and any other family members who are experiencing symptoms of whiplash. It’s important in the long term that the healing takes place with things in alignment. The other person’s insurance should cover it or if you are in a no-fault state, your insurance will cover it.
Thank you, Debbs. I am SO glad your daughter was okay as well.
Wow- God is good. Thankful it wasn’t worse. Prayers of thanks.
Thank you, Penny.
We praise Yeshua for you and you families protection and full recovery of this accident!!! My wife had a similar event happen to her last week, and like you said, to Yah be all the glory for His intervention! So happy for you and your family!
Thank you, Steven – I am very glad your wife was okay.
I usually read and not comment, but I cannot help but believe and think that the white you saw was just exactly the action of the angel(s) that moved into action on your behalf. They are able to move between our earth’s segments of time and change the realm of matter. A similar story my sister reported when a carload of teenagers were right upon my three year old who had zoomed into the street with her bike, and according to my sister, the car seemed to go right through her.
Wow. I would not be surprised at all. Thank you, Charlene.
Glad you and the family are ok. Incidents like yours are bloody scary but oh, what a feeling to come out like you did. Warm wishes to you and your fam.
Thank you, Ian – much appreciated.
Whew! God is merciful indeed. Love that Psalm of praise!
Thank you, Claymore – glad you’re here.
David-
Sorry for the unfortunate demise of your vehicle, but as I always say, these events are sometimes the greatest “perspective gainers” a person can have. Absolutely, there is such a thing as divine intervention, so your praise of God is apropos. Stay well and keep planting…
Thank you, Geno – I agree.
PS: David-
Set up a drowning bucket to fix your rat problem…. you have dozens of YouTube videos on how to accomplish this. I hate rates and mice. All vermin are as worthless as mosquitoes to me. Happy killing.
