I spotted this pine borer in a prairie while foraging:

I’ve always liked beetles, though this one is apparently is a big pest, since its larvae bore into pine trees.

One of these days I’m going to start an insect collection, ’cause I’m nerdy like that.

For now I’ll let my finds live, uncaptured by anything but my trusty Nikon.
