At the end of this last week we were able to buy a new vehicle.
It’s not REALLY a new vehicle – it’s a Toyota Noah van from 2000 – but it’s new for us.
The insurance payout was just enough for me to buy this one with cash… and I had just enough left over to buy Rachel a chest freezer. Now we can really put away meat and produce. The fridge in the house we rent is too small for our family and the freezer is tiny. The new chest freezer is huge and will help her a lot.
On Saturday we went to the local meat market in the morning and I loaded up on pork, goat and beef. Here the animals aren’t injected with hormones or finished with GMO corn. They are usually tied in the jungle where they eat whatever they like… and the flavor of the meat is rich, hearty and tougher than most of us are used to in the states.
Slow-cooked, it’s delicious.
I also bought fresh tuna, marlin and snapper – for about $3 a pound, right from the ocean. That’s a great benefit of living close to the sea in a lower-income area. The cost of tuna steaks is cheaper than dollar store bologna back in Florida.
After meat shopping, we took a wrong turn going home and ended up traveling way up into the mountains. Instead of turning around, I kept going and decided to take the kids to see the misty cloud forests. After an hour of hiking and then getting rained on amidst tree ferns and vines beside a deep blue lake, we traveled home and packed the freezer.
It’s a different life here, but it’s a good one. And I’m very grateful God let us all live through our car accident.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

The fool has said in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt,
They have done abominable works,
There is none who does good.
The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.
They have all turned aside,
They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good,
No, not one.
Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge,
Who eat up my people as they eat bread,
And do not call on the Lord?
There they are in great fear,
For God is with the generation of the righteous.
You shame the counsel of the poor,
But the Lord is his refuge.
Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion!
When the Lord brings back the captivity of His people,
Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.

My husband and I were thankful to hear that you were able to buy a new van(and a chest freezer to boot)! I know y’all have had rotten luck with your vehicles down there-maybe third time is the charm?
Hopefully so. Thank you, Effie.
David, I think the name of the van may be a sign of good things to come. Noah! Makes me think about the old Cosby stand up routine. I wonder if it has that new 3.0 Gopherwood turbo diesel engine? :)
