Last week we got a couple German-made compost bins for our shop.
This is the “ECO-Komposter:”
It’s a really simple design that holds 74 gallons of material.

Hugh is hilarious. He’s been commenting on my YouTube channel for years. And he’s totally right. My normal advice for composting is to just THROW IT ON THE GROUND!
But some people really like controlled system. If they want to buy compost bins, we might as well carry them. Especially compost bins operated by pretty German ladies.
Sadly, when we opened the packaging, Frau Komposter was not included.
I took one home from the shop on Sunday to set up in the herb garden. (The compost bin, not a German lady.)
We made pear salsa last night from a box of pears we were given, so we had lots of skins and cores to throw in the composter. The bottom of the bin is open to the ground, so I set it beneath the chaste tree in the herb garden and leveled it a bit, then threw some rotten unsprayed hay in the bottom as a first addition.
It will probably fill up with fire ants, but that’s what happens with most of the composting around here. They aren’t nearly as bad in the winter, though.
This particular composting container retails for $139.00, which is pricey, but it does make an easy solution for a small yard or city location. Better than throwing food scraps in a landfill. Though not as good as THROWING IT ON THE GROUND
