Here’s a big tree:
Mango trees get a lot larger than many fruit trees.
I’ve written on their height before – harvesting from tall trees can be an experience.
Fortunately, mangoes are very easy to prune and keep small.
However, it would be awesome to build a tree fort in the tree like the one I visited yesterday. There’s one serious argument in favor of letting them grow tall.

I have a big, thriving mango tree in my Cocoa Beach yard with delicious, non-fibrous fruit. I am aware that the leaves are allelopathic, but piled them on my dormant herb garden (after Irma blew them all off last fall), and so far so good. Now I’m looking to revegetate the whole yard, emphasizing fruit trees and shrubs, but don’t know if anything will grow under the canopy of the mango. A virile fern lived there for a decade or so, but has slowly migrated to the outskirts of the canopy. Any suggestions?
Also, my husband is horrified that I’ve added some of the mango leaves to our compost… I’ve read pros and cons on this, but it generally seemed to be ok – what do you think?

I’ve composted mango leaves – no issues. Never had a problem.
Gingers and turmeric should grow under the mango. You could likely pull off yams (dioscorea spp.) as well, directing them up the tree.
