We’ve had a few technical issues here that are still being sorted out. Some of the widgets were malfunctioning and I was unable to respond to comments or work with images.
That said, I didn’t get a chance to write, so today’s post is wide open. Please feel free to start a flame war in the comments section.
I’ll start out with:
SQUARE FOOT GARDENING IS A TERRIBLE IDEA!
10-10-10 IS BETTER THAN ORGANIC!
and
STAR WARS IS A FRAUD!
Now GO!
Fight!

What was the contraption you were dragging through the dirt in a previous post bring used for?
That was my homemade row-maker.
I got the idea from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=em0lhFGbXbM
Really a good way to do it.
My only problem with Star Wars is that they sold out to Disney…
I’m aware of the quicker benefit of the of chemical fertilizers being in an absorbable form as they dissolve. However I choose organic just to be certain there isn’t anything unwanted being absorbed into my food. Yes miracle grow causes explosive growth…but what’s that blue dye and is it absorbed into the plant and do I end up eating something possibly toxic? I’ll just stick organic and I’ll never need to question anything…
Square foot gardening in theory sounds great but then you see all these mismatched unruly but awesome food forest gardens and go why…
That’s the ONLY problem with Star Wars? I always pinned the big problem on Lucas himself.
The three prequels were a crime against humanity.
And yeah… organic vs. laboratory… hmm… hard choice.
MiracleGro is the PopTart of plant food.

Sir Robert Cotton’s Library Organization is a Pain in the Neck!!! “Cotton MS Vitellius A.xv,” Really!!
You win the “out of left field award.” Congrats.
Regarding the “technical difficulties,” all I can say is: “BFH fixes everything!”
Especially nails.
Star Wars – as long as they (Disney) don’t make Chewy gay, or Han Solo break into a song, I’m good. I’ll still wait for the DVD though.
Chemical fertilizers- why spend the money? Why get the plants hooked on drugs? More fun to grow your own fertilizers. Who doesn’t love to chop and drop? The way god designed it is perfect. Who are we to mess with that?
Square Foot Gardening- seems pointless if your forest gardening already. Maybe I don’t know enough about it. I have to agree with Derek with the little I do know.
Yes on all, though Square Foot Gardening is a great way to get people started. Some folks need order.
10 10 10 ok I assume that this means 10% nitrogen 10% potassium 10% phosphorus. So my question is what is the remaining 70% composed of ???? Any answers ? Thanks
Various fillers.
The precise makeup is a source of concern for many gardeners. I have heard of heavy metals and other contaminants being in the “rest” of the bag, but can’t confirm those rumors.
I wish I could chop and drop. There’s nothing out here but sand, cacti, a few creosote tree/bushes and termite infested desert trees. Besides, anything I put down under my plants/trees is so bone dry that it gets blown away by the wind. So, I rely on organic, water-soluble fertilizer. Now, if I could get me some worms and start vermicomposting, I’ll for certain be using worm tea. But that is a dream for another day.
Also, as for Star Wars–it lost me when the prequels started.
As for square foot gardening–it always looked so wonderful on TV but my plants always rebelled and refused to adhere to the unnatural constraints put upon them. So, I gave it up. I mostly grow in pots, in Kratky containers for the heavy-drinkers (plants, that is), and in a carefully constructed shadehouse that helps protect them from the deadly summer sun.
