I’ve always wanted a refrigerator garden. Now I have one.
The internet is still down at my house but I managed to upload this video a few minutes ago:
This instant herb-garden-in-an-old-fridge should keep us supplied with seasonings for the kitchen.
The method of dumping lots of wood and carboniferous debris in the bottom is one I explain in more detail in Compost Everything: The Good Guide to Extreme Composting.
Also, the rap song from the video? You can get it here for a donation of any amount… or just for free, if you’re really cheap.

I wanted use an old fridge to make a container garden for Jerusalem Artichokes a few years back…my husband just rolled his eyes at me. :-) I figured it would be a good way to keep them from spreading all over my yard; they can be invasive, right?
Very cool idea! I love how high up it is. And your ingenuity with punching those holes is on point .
I was already growing in an old fridge when first saw your fridge video on YT, I now have 18 of them! I absolutely love this way of growing. Living in hot South Carolina I don’t put my drainage holes in the bottom, I put them about about 6 inches from the bottom at the end it would have been standing up on when it was still a refrigerator, this gives it a bit of a reservoir to hold water through our hot dry summers. My oldest fridge garden is Six years old, I think, and it is still holding up very well. Thank you David for showing folks this way of gardening I hope more people give it a try.
