August and September are good times to go hunting for mushrooms. And don’t forget to bring along some good mushroom hunting guides. I spent a lot of time reading and researching before I ate my first wild mushroom.
Get to know the really easy ones first, then branch out from there. I still stay away from most gilled mushrooms. Except for this one, that is:

On seeing it was blue, the first thing I looked for was to see if it was a Cort. I’ve seen a couple of those here in a State Forest, so I know some grow here. It’s only been recently I’ve learned that some Corts have the same toxins as Amanitas. That was NOT in the field guide I got back in the 70’s! Good thing I never experimented with them.
I’ve only seen one blue Lact in the about decade and a half I’ve been here. It was under the oak I just had removed (one nearly took out a neighbor’s house when Irma blew through), so I probably won’t see any more.
