I have seen some of the post-hurricane images and updates from the panhandle and I am so sorry for you guys that got nailed.
If you are rebuilding, you may be able to claim some material from the ruins. Fallen trees can be quite valuable:
Think about saving fallen mango, Norfolk island pine, oaks, hickory and other trees if you can. You might be able to get some money in the future for the lumber.

Great advice. Storms have been a plenty this year.
Man, I wish we could. What I wouldn’t give for a portable lumbermill right now… 90% of the trees in my parents’ neighborhood are down, most of them beautiful 50+-year-old oaks. A little heartbreaking a couple days ago, when we had to cut a water oak into tiny sections to get it loose from power lines in the road.
Yeah, it’s sad to see good wood wasted. One day I’m probably going to get a sawmill of some sort. I love wood.
I know what you mean. Beautiful old oaks and large mature pines are down everywhere. But because of the urgent necessity to clear roads and power lines – not to mention punctured roofs – they are being cut up, hauled off, and chipped. There will be very few mature trees in this area for a long time.
However, there is always a bright side: I will have more sunny spots to expand the vegetable garden next year.
That’s the bright side of it. I love pine boards, though.
