I’ve interplanted a bed of cassava and sweet potatoes – we shall see how they do. Sometimes the cassava grow too densely and shade out their vining companions. I am interested to see if the cassava will make good roots in 6 months now that we’re in a frost-free climate. Up in North Florida, cassava usually takes more like 18 months to make decent roots, thanks to cooler weather and winter frosts which completely end all growth.

Yes, it will be interesting to see how that turns out. We in the north of Florida are having a slow growing season, it is still cooling off into the 60’s at night which is really slowing down the plant growth. I have only mowed the grass twice this year, both times in the last month. Hopefully the heat and rains will kick in and things will get better. The nice thing is the Mulberries are ripening and taking their SWEET time, I have been reaping the harvest for over a month now. To boot, there are still plenty on the trees to ripen!

David, i got a (supposedly) white mulberry from you one time at the 326 market,month or so before you stopped going there. It started making berries this spring except they look to be red? i never got any of them fully ripened as the birds got to them . question is do the whites have any red in them? maybe its to close to the blacks i have, so its getting cross polinated?

Normally they go from green to white – the black ones start red. Sounds like I ripped you off!

No, unfortunately. If they bear fruit, they’re female. Can’t cross.
It must have been a plant tag mixup. Good thing my company went out of business or you could sue. I’ll have to mail you some cocoa or something.
you gave me some free seeds and some cassava cuttings so im sure were even or i still owe you a bit :) it’s no biggie. btw the jicama seeds are growing up the fence doing good. so yea it’s no problem.
