Protecting tomatoes from frost is a tall order – but it’s a lot easier when they’re just seedlings.
This last week, we got two frosts right in a row… after Rachel had already planted out a bunch of tiny tomato plants (and a few other things).
Since we’d already expended every extra blanket, sheet, bedspread, etc. covering the citrus, tobacco, leucanas, moringas and so on, we had to get creative in covering her seedlings.
Behold! Jars, coffee mugs, teacups and plenty of happy plants. Call them redneck cloches!
Incidentally, this worked perfectly… not a single fatality, despite there being frost a-plenty.
Who says you need fancy cloches? We protected our tomato seedlings from frost with nary a loss and we didn’t spend a penny.
