With a vision and proper planning, even the desert can be reclaimed:
I’ve been to Qatar and was amazed by how desolate and barren the region was. Much like this area in Saudi Arabia, it was a slice of incredible first-world buildings and architecture on a blasted, rocky plain with zero vegetation. Imagine the potential that could be unleashed with regenerative agricultural systems!

I am fascinated by these projects even though almost none of the principles are useful here in FL ;)
I think there’s a big potential here in FL, through planted bioswale landscaping, instead of empty ditches around empty lawns and gutters that quickly wash everything down. The idea of these systems is to capture and slow the runoff and passively water plants – it’s equally useful if you have a lot of rainfall or on flat terrain. Bioswales filter, and have capacity to mop up rainwater, which means less flooding. As an example, after hurricane Michael, so many big trees were killed that water table went up in the whole area for years, and it is probably still persisting, that’s a lot of biomass that was lost.
