We got our first lychee fruit off our little tree a week or so back.
Lychee trees don’t grow up here, unless you feel like covering them constantly through the winter… or, if you do like I do, and put a tree in a big pot, then keep that pot in the greenhouse. We only get a small amount of fruit, but the fruit tastes incredible. In South Florida, they’ll mature into lovely shade trees – and all your Chinese friends will be totally thrilled that you’re growing them.
Incidentally: yes, I’m planting the seeds.

Here in central Florida, my neighbor has a tree out front that had hundreds of beautiful red fruits. I waited too long to ask her to share one or two . . . and now they're all gone (I've never tasted these). Beautiful tree and even more so when covered in fruit.
They're delicious – sweet and slightly astringent with a delicate perfume-like aroma.
Fantastic David! They look delicious! I tasted a Rambutan (sp?) for the first time last week and traveled to heaven for the briefest moment. I planted the seeds, so here's hoping! :)
My aunt's tree down south only produced 6 or so Lychee and that next year the tree will be totally loaded. Maybe next year you'll get a freak crop! :)
Rambutan! Nice! Haven't tried one of those yet. I hope we're all loaded with fruit next year… the wait on fruit trees is painful… but eventually…
I actually just planted a chocolate pudding fruit tree in my parents' yard. Now THAT is an awesome fruit.

Hi David! I just posted a question about tamarind, and this one is about two lychee trees I grew from seed. They’re in the ground probably too close to the tamarind but I can move them. They’re 3 years old and about 3′ tall. Any idea how long it’ll take before they fruit?

Lychee trees can take a long time, 8 years or more.
