Forget political independence: I want some food independence and I think ponds are probably a key part of that equation. No watering and high production.
That said, does anyone have a lead on where I can get some good duck potato plants, AKA Sagittaria Latifolia, AKA arrowhead?
I’ve got multiple folks asking about it and I’d really like to plop some in my pond and start spreading it around.
I picked up another Sagittaria a few months ago from some friends, only to find it isn’t the type that makes roots.
Shucks. I need some!
Beyond that, if anyone has other good edible pond plants, let me know. I’ll buy seeds, roots, plants, etc. I’d like to get my aquatic plant operation going.
I currently have water celery, pickerel weed, azolla and of course, water chestnuts.

Apparently it's useful for increasing concentration, like ginseng except not as stimulating… and it's a cousin to "root beer" plant and black pepper. Some useful species in that family. I don't know how it would grow here, though, since I think it's a total tropical.
Hello David, I have some of these plants here in Illinois growing wild on my property and was contemplating starting a bog garden around my house to hold the arrowheads and sweet flag. A very interesting and aromatic plant(when leaves are cut) that does well in moist/wet conditions. I have a very large concentration of these plants and would also be willing to dig some tubers up for you. Happy thoughts, Robert.

For anyone else interested in Arrowhead, sacredsucculents.com carries seeds (and lots of other cool stuff) This certainly does seem like a winner for a water garden.

Hello, we have water shield lilly in our pond but need some thing that will balance it. We are having to pull some out because it is aggressive. It is eddible. What would you suggest to add for balance but not aggressive?
Also where do you buy non gmo cover crop bulk seeds?

I like aggressive pond plants because you can yank them and throw them into the compost pile regularly, keeping the compost pile fed. I don’t have a suggestion on a replacement, though.
As for cover crops, I get some from Johnny’s Selected Seeds and larger bags from Seven Springs Farm, both online.
Oh I wish I could get half the things that you guys seems to have easy access to. For anyone in Australia, I got some duck potatoes and a few other perennial vegetables through the mail from someone in NSW
