We got our first frost overnight, so, of course, I took pictures.
Frosted sweet potato leaves:
Frosted cucuzza gourd:
Frosted ube yams:
Frosted Cuban oregano:
Earlier in the week we moved the sensitive potted plants to the greenhouse, cut and planted the rest of our sugarcane, harvested sorrel, yams and sweet potatoes, saved cassava cuttings, took cuttings of other sensitive crops, and picked what we could pick before the cold rolled in.
And now the 2024 gardening season is effectively over! Other than a few brassicas that are growing, and some roots we haven’t harvested, our main work is done.
Here’s our big harvest video from this week. We were blessed!
This was the biggest cassava we ever harvested.
47lbs from one plant! It stayed in the ground for two years, but the roots are still mostly tender and edible.
We’re saving cuttings to re-plant next year.
Here’s the rest of what we harvested:
Lots of good things – what a blessing.
This is the new cane bed we planted:
It’s about 3600 ft2. That should give us some cane.
Have a great weekend.
