The owner of my North Florida Food Forest Project sent a few photos yesterday. Lots of fruit coming in right now.

Check out these big blueberry bushes:

That’s a pretty good patch. Here’s the other side:

And a kumquat I planted in the backyard. It was only foot or so tall when I put it in:

This was another little tree that has grown – a beautiful “Flying Dragon” trifoliate orange:

And here, to the left, is a wild plum, then a fig in the middle, then a little apple cactus on the right:

That apple cactus doesn’t’ seem to have done much in the six years or so since I planted it, but the fig looks great. The plum planted itself and I just let it grow years ago.

Finally, this grapefruit looks amazing: 

I planted a row of citrus alongside a silverthorn hedge and mulched them all heavily, and fed and watered well at establishment. They are some of the best-looking citrus I have ever seen. They seem to like the mulch and the chop and drop and nitrogen provided by the silverthorn.

Sometimes I miss this old food forest. Would love to get back in there and add more layers.

It seems I’m better at building systems than I am at keeping them. I am very glad that the new owner loves plants – it would be so sad to see it gone! She has done a great job keeping the system intact.
