Though we recently built cattle panel trellises, and have used Crickmore trellises, like this:
…natural trellises are much more beautiful and harmonious with nature.
Like this bamboo trellis our friend Kim made:
Natural materials break down faster and (usually) require rebuilding more often than man-made materials, but they also:
- Don’t pollute the environment in their manufacture
- Break down into compost after their useable lifespan
- Are more aesthetically pleasing than paint, metal, plastic, etc.
- Cost nothing to make
- Can be grown on-site (via a clump of woods or stand of bamboo)
- Make your garden look like the Shire
Part of me would like to build a garden featuring only natural materials for trellises and structures.
This:
Compared to this:
I prefer the look of the latter, and that isn’t even a well-built natural trellis.
The usefulness of a cattle panel trellis is hard to beat, but there is something magical to using only that which is harvested from nature.
