Perhaps I’m getting a bit sentimental, but I’ve been spending some time wandering about randomly and taking photos of the food forest over the last week.
My real estate agent came over yesterday and we’re going to be listing our place for $135,000 in a week and a half. It’s a great price – and it’s even better when you consider the incredible range of plants and trees on the property.

I’ve interplanted both native and non-native pollinator plants for the butterflies and hummingbirds, tossed in a wide range of nitrogen fixers, placed yams wherever they can climb and packed in a baffling array of edible, medicinal or simply beautiful plants.
Now I’m praying for a plant-lover to come along and continue my work. Our real estate agent said she’d never seen a yard like this before in her 17 years of selling homes.
I told her that there were others here and there… and more every day.
“In a few years,” I said, “I bet you’ll be seeing a lot more homes with forest gardens.”
Keep on planting, folks – it takes a little time but the long-term beauty is hard to match… and the variety and quantity of food is out of this world.

$135,000 seems like your home is underpriced. Did you use more than one agent to set the selling price? Personally I think the agent should be someone who sells agricultural land not residential. In any case, do you know the amount of money you spent on the plants? That should also figure into the asking price. Here’s hoping whoever buys your place keeps the plants. You may be able, if you want to, secure a deal that if the buyer does not want the plants you can remove them – to sell or keep as long as you do not leave a bunch of holes in the ground.
I mention the last part as a house a couple of streets over made a deal that they would remove the hibiscus the buyer did not want – they sold half and kept half making about $300 in the deal.
Yes – it’s underpriced. We’d like to sell quickly.

This looks absolutely awesome. I’ll bet you don’t have to spend a lot on using your A/C either. Looks very well shaded for the summer months and the sun can get in easily during the winter. Very well designed David.
