Yesterday I travelled to a nursery with some friends and a trailer to go plant hunting. We came back with dozens of trees and shrubs, including blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, pomegranates, chaste trees, Chinese chestnuts and more.
On Saturday I’ll head to another nursery and stock up on apples, plums, peaches and persimmons.
As I build the system, I will document how it turns out. Around the trees and shrubs in the middle of the rows, we’ll plant lots of vegetables. It’s going to be beautiful.

I live in Colorado, near Denver–clay soil, semi-arid climate, no forests. Is it possible to create a food forest here?
It may be possible – do you have prickly pear, mesquite or other shrubby plants growing?
