I'm not sure which is more appealing – the road kill for chickens or the urine based fertilizer. ;-)

Your comment made me laugh out loud. When you start digging into aboriginal methods, traditional waste management, pioneer farming, etc., the rabbit hole gets very deep indeed. And sometimes it's filled with manure.
These skills may become useful again, even though some are rather distasteful. If I thought I'd be able to afford AC, hold down a great job, have a retirement fund in 10 years and live under a perpetually stable and benevolent government… I wouldn't even bother. But there are enough doubts in my mind at this point that I'm gonna keep reading on what to do if the lights go out and the toilets don't flush.
I also pray a lot. :)
