   Seriously? Your coral snake brought a smile to my face when I read it this morning. People need to relax.

      I was realizing: people were thinking I was a terrible parent for not killing that snake. Really, it was early in the morning and I was awoken from a sound sleep so I staggered out with a camera to take pictures of the "snake, snake snake!" on the back porch. If I'd been more coherent, I should've dispatched the thing, even though it kills me to kill something beautiful.

   You did the right thing brother! That snake perhaps has more right to be here than we do. It only lives its God given normal life because its an animal. We are the ones who've done things astray from natural motions. God is all and all there is so in effect anything we do interacts with God. Nobody wants to hurt God do they? I know…for some its hard to wrap their unopened minds around. Education will keep your children from the snake and the snake will have kept itself away. No need to senselessly kill anything we are all passengers in this life…us and the snake too.

   I have had large venomous snakes visit my suburban garden.
   I don't mind and just leave them alone.
   I wouldn't worry unless they appear in greater number more often, which is very unlikely.
   Bring back the snake post !

      It's like when one talks about smoking cigars. I love a good cigar… but when someone's parent died of lung cancer, even talking about moderation makes them freak out. Seems to be some folks have had bad experiences with snakes so they get nutty. I've stepped over pygmy rattlers, held a diamondback and taken close-ups of a coral snake… but if I'd ever seen someone die, I suppose I'd be more sensitive.

   Aw…David! I loved that post!!!

   Being something of a amateur"herper" myself, I was completely surprised and impressed that one of our native beauties could be appreciated…fangs and all, in a family's backyard habitat. There was hope for humanity after all! And then after a bad day I go back to re-read that post straight from "chicken soup for the snake lovers soul" you know, too feel all uplifted….and instead I see it has been removed and you regret not having offed it! Noooo! (I think I cried.)

   In all seriousness though, I think killing it would be sending the wrong message to the kids. If they are too young to be cautious and on the lookout for venomous critters….then relocating it would be a much better option, at least in my opinion. You could check the "catch coral snake" box off your bucket list, and…maybe you could even include the whole family, make an education day out of it.

   If we eliminated every threat it would be an awfully dull world. Kids break bones falling out of trees…cut
   them down, a drunk idiot drowned in a creek…bar it from future swimmers, wolves ate farmer John's calf…shoot all wolves on sight. This mindset might not have been so devastating to the natural world 10,000yrs ago, but with a global human population of 8 billion and climbing…we had better learn to co-exist.

   – annoyingly preachy I know….but what can I say, no uplifting post to lighten the mood.

   …………Oh, your Extreme Composting book was awesome! I have a barrel of fish guts festering away, the neighbors love me. LOL!
