After years of trying various compost pile designs, all of which were cobbled together from junk, I have finally built a serious 3-bin compost pile for our new property:

This compost pile design has three bins with removable wooden slats in between bins. To transfer material from one bin to the next, the slats are pulled out and the contents of the bin can be shoveled over.

The bin to the left is my starting bin where we will place raw compostable material and let it break down. After a time, it gets shoveled to bin #2, then, when finished composting, into bin #3.

This is the best system yet. I am psyched.
